Getting Lip Fillers? 3 Things You May Not Know

Posted on

Dermal fillers are one of the most popular noninvasive injectables out there. Not only do they work really well, but they can also be used all across the face including in the lips. By adding definition and volume to your lips, dermal fillers can help you feel sexier than ever. Before you go in for either your consultation or your injection appointment, however, there are a few things that may be worth noting.

1. They Can Be Painful

When you are getting injections in your lips there are tons of nerves running through them that can be really sensitive to being poked with a needle. To help ease any pain or discomfort, there are two things your injector may suggest, including using a dermal filler that has lidocaine built-in and using a topical numbing cream as well. With the combination of both of these things all you should feel is maybe a slight prick or tingling sensation.

2. Your Lips Will Be Swollen Afterwards

After your injections, your lips may be substantially swollen for at least a few days afterward, which is really normal. To help ease the swelling you can apply a soft gel ice pack to your lips or gently apply a frozen water bottle to them. Make sure that you don't apply too much pressure because it may increase the bruising. While the swelling may be a bit uncomfortable, once it dies down, you will see the full results from your injections, which will make all of the swelling well worth it in the long run.

3. They Can Add More Later On

One of the tricky things about lip injections, when you get them done the first time, is that you may not know what kinds of results you want until the swelling has gone down. For instance, if your swelling is severe and lasts several days then you may think you don't want any more injections. However, as the swelling subsides, you may suddenly realize that you like the look of fuller lips and may want to go back and get some more. The great thing about dermal fillers is that they can be added to as you go along.
